Vision Zero:

X-ing on Adams

How can design and community outreach work hand-in-hand to create safer streets?

“X-ing on Adams” (Crossing on Adams) is a week-long activation of W. Adams Blvd between Fairfax Ave and Rimpau Blvd, aimed at increasing awareness about traffic safety. The project includes: physical design interventions at the locations of past traffic collisions; community surveys about the neighborhood identity; educational programming with local high school students; and a celebration event.

The installation was installed in May 2017 and the project culminated in a community celebration event held at Club Fais Do Do at 5257 W Adams Blvd on Friday, May 12th from 5-8PM. The event was free and open to the public, and featured music and complimentary snacks provided by the Fais Do Do Chef and Cooking Laboratory. Attendees had the chance to learn more about the project, speak with LADOT staff members about Vision Zero, and review and give feedback about the future of the neighborhood.

As part of the City of Los Angeles’ Vision Zero Los Angeles Initiative, a commitment by Mayor Eric Garcetti to eliminate all traffic deaths by 2025, this community education project is produced in partnership by LA-Más, Parents, Educators/Teachers & Students in Action (PESA), and Community Arts Resources (CARS) and made possible with support from the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) through funding from the Office of Transportation Services (OTS).
